What is the Skate Society?
The Skate Society is a vibrant community that brings together individuals who share a passion for skateboarding. Whether you’re a seasoned skater or a complete beginner, everyone is welcome to join. The society aims to foster inclusivity, offering support and resources to those eager to learn and explore the world of skateboarding.
Can I Sign Up if I’ve Never Skateboarded Before?
Absolutely! The Skate Soc provides spare complete boards and safety gear for those who don’t have their own equipment, allowing newcomers to give skateboarding a try. No matter your skill level, from total novice to experienced rider, you’ll find a supportive environment within the society.
When and Where are the Skate Sessions?
Skate sessions typically occur twice a week, weather permitting. Weekday sessions usually take place on Wednesdays starting at 1pm and ending around 5pm, with flexibility for members to drop in and out as it suits them. Weekend sessions are held on either Saturday or Sunday at 1pm. Eaton Park serves as the primary location for sessions, conveniently located just 5-10 minutes from the campus center. Additionally, the society plans to organize trips to other skate parks in the area to add variety and help members develop new skills.
How Can I Stay Updated with the Society?
Upon becoming a member, you’ll gain access to the society’s Facebook group, where you’ll find information on sessions, news, contests, and more. Members also receive relevant updates via email and can follow the society’s Instagram and Snapchat accounts for additional content and reminders about upcoming sessions.
What Else Does the Society Offer?
Beyond skateboarding, the society organizes social events both on and off-campus, catering to all members, including non-alcoholic gatherings to promote inclusivity. On-campus activities may include room bookings for gatherings, skate video screenings, and shared meals. Disney Society
UEA’s Disney Society welcomes anyone with an interest in all things Disney-related, whether it’s Classic Disney, Marvel, Disney Channel, Pixar, and more. The UEA Ghost Hunting Society is the number one destination for all things spooky and bizarre! Their main events consist of spooky excursions to haunted locations, where they search for evidence of undead activities. Join them every Tuesday from 7 to 10pm at New Sci 0.01 for an evening filled with chills and thrills! Don’t forget to hop onto their Discord server to mingle with fellow enthusiasts of the paranormal. Keep up with all their spectral goings-on by following them on social media. Most importantly, they’re here to make friends and have fun, creating a welcoming community for all, regardless of who you are or your course of study. Game Design and Development Society
The UEA Game Design and Development Society is for those who are passionate about playing video games and dream of creating their own. This society offers the perfect platform for designing and developing games collaboratively or individually. Even if you’re not a programmer, there are plenty of opportunities to contribute, such as in art, music, level design, and testing. Friendly Runner’s Club!
The Friendly Runner’s Club is a casual running group welcoming individuals of all abilities. Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or just starting your running journey, this club offers a supportive and inclusive environment where you can have fun, exercise, and make new friends.
Strava Group
Join the UEA Friendly Runners Club on Strava to connect with other members and track your progress. Simply download the Strava app, search for ‘UEA Friendly Runners Club,’ and join the group. Encourage fellow runners and share your achievements as you work towards your goals.
Run Schedule
Every Wednesday at 3 pm, members of the club meet outside The Enterprise Centre (TEC) to complete a 5k run. Explore scenic routes around campus and Norwich while enjoying fresh air and camaraderie. Additionally, the club participates in Parkruns, offering a free, inclusive opportunity to run 5k at Eaton Park or Conley Lane on Saturdays. Sunday long runs are also organised for those interested in distances of 10k and above.
Couch to 5k Programme
For beginners or those looking to ease back into fitness, the BBC’s Couch to 5k nine-week programme is recommended. This structured plan gradually builds endurance and stamina, guiding participants from walking to running 5k.
Mindfulness and Meditation
Join the UEA Mindfulness and Meditation Society once a week for yoga and meditation sessions aimed at cultivating mindfulness, calm, and insight. Sessions are open to individuals of any faith or none – all you need is an open mind! Led by Kiran, who has experience in Buddhist meditation, primarily in the Thai Forest Tradition, these meetings provide a space for relaxation and self-reflection.
Meeting Details
They gather every Thursday at 18:30 in ZICER 02.01. After the yoga and meditation session, feel free to stick around for a cup of tea and group discussion. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced practitioner, these sessions offer something for everyone.

Attendance is open to all UEA staff and students. However, becoming a member allows you to receive email updates about the society’s activities. Membership is £3.00 for the year, and the funds help organisers run the sessions smoothly.

What We Do:
UEA Art Society is a welcoming community for anyone interested in the visual arts, regardless of ability level or experience. Their aim is to provide a fun, inclusive, and judgment-free environment where members can embrace their individual creativity. From life drawing sessions to mixed media workshops, including popular Bob Ross painting sessions and clay sculpting, the society offer a variety of practical sessions to explore and develop artistic skills while socialising with fellow members.
